Location. Le Vignole Country House is a carefully restored Umbrian farmhouse set amidst rolling wooded hills and sunflower fields overlooking Assisi's fortresses and Basilica of St Francis, which are four kilometres away. Rome Leonardo Da Vinci airport is 180 kilometres from the hotel, with an approximate driving time of 60 minutes.
Hotel Features. The sensitive restoration of the farmhouse can transport guests to a bygone era, with the detailed work in the 14th century chapel and old tower particularly noteworthy. From the picturesque garden, full of herbs, shrubs and mature trees, walkers can go on to the Franciscan path that weaves through the nearby woods and sunflower fields. An outdoor pool overlooks the undulating landscape, and the hotel also offers a bar, library and free car parking.
Le Vignole Restaurant offers diners a characteristic Umbrian atmosphere; linen topped tables, terracotta flooring and antique style furniture are set off by intimate low lighting, with handmade pasta complemented by a selection of grill cooked meats and an extensive wine list.
Hiking and biking trails can be found in around the hotel grounds, with bicycles available to hire on site.
Guestrooms. The 23 individually decorated guestrooms, located on four floors and accessible by lift, all feature rustic decor with beamed ceilings, terracotta flooring, antique style furniture and original bathroom ceramics. All guestrooms include air conditioning, direct dial telephones, complimentary Internet connections, satellite television, and bathrooms with hair dryers and complimentary toiletries.
Expert Tip. There's more to Assisi than the spectacular fortresses and the Basilica of St Francis. Check out the Santa Maria degli Angeli Market that comes to life every Monday morning, and look out for traditional Assisiwork embroidery, a unique, centuries old technique still visibly practised as a cottage industry in the town.

Getting there. There is a half hourly express train service from the airport to Rome's Termini train station. From here, take the Rome Foligno line to Assisi Santa Maria degli Angeli station, which is a six kilometre taxi ride away from Le Vignole Country House.
Driving directions. From the airport, take Autostrada del Sole, highway A1. Exit at Orte, and continue on the road to Perugia. At S.S. 75, exit at Santa Maria degli Angeli, direction Assisi. Before entering Assisi, turn left in the direction of Perugia then immediately turn right, passing Ponte San Vetturino. Follow the signs for approximately 3.5 kilometres to Le Vignole Country House.
